Ethics Statement
Glossema: Journal of Linguistics Perspectives adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines to ensure that the publication process and outcome are ethical, following the best publication practice in all processes of publication. Please review the brief description of core practices below. For more detailed information, please refer to the COPE official website regarding Core Practices.
1. ALLEGATIONS OF MISCONDUCT
When an allegation of misconduct is brought to the attention of the Editor-in-Chief, an initial investigation will be conducted to verify the validity of the allegation. If there is a concern regarding a lack of capacity or a conflict of interest, the Editor-in-Chief will advise the management of Sekata Nalar Aksara Press to establish an independent ethics committee to investigate the matter. If the allegation is proven based on the investigation results, the Editor-in-Chief will take further disciplinary actions, including but not limited to article amendment, retraction, removal of authors, and the assignment of additional reviewers.
2. AUTHORSHIP AND CONTRIBUTORSHIP
Authors must explicitly state the contribution of each individual in the cover letter accompanying the manuscript submission. It must be ensured that no deserving authors have been omitted. Changes in authorship (addition or removal) must be notified to the journal with a detailed explanation.
Such changes will not be entertained after the final revision is submitted unless there is a clear justification reviewed attentively by the Editorial Board, and all authors consent to the change. The number of authors for one manuscript published in Glossema should ideally reflect the actual contribution; listing authors who did not contribute is strictly prohibited. The journal recognizes the following contributions for authorship: data acquisition, data analysis, data interpretation, article drafting, critical reviewing, and final approval of the version to be published.
The Corresponding Author is the primary contact for the journal throughout the publication process. This role cannot be transferred except in cases of force majeure (e.g., mental illness, severe disease, or death) or formal withdrawal of the current corresponding author.
3. COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS
The Editor-in-Chief works with the handling editors to address complaints regarding publication decisions, processes, and ethics. Authors are welcome to appeal if an article is rejected without satisfactory justification. While detailed descriptions for desk rejections may not always be provided due to high submission volumes, decisions are reviewable upon appeal. Rejection after external peer review is generally final; however, an appeal may be considered if there is a clear inconsistency between the review results and the editor’s decision.
Regarding the process, handling editors strive to complete reviews on time. However, delays may occur as reviewers are active academicians. If a delay is caused by the journal, authors are welcome to submit a complaint, and efforts will be made to expedite the process. For complaints regarding publication ethics, the Editor-in-Chief will consult COPE guidelines to determine the appropriate procedure.
4. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
A conflict of interest occurs when authors, supervisors, or sponsors have relationships with other persons or organizations that could influence the research. All potential conflicts of interest must be disclosed upon submission. Glossema adheres to COPE guidelines in handling undisclosed conflicts of interest raised during or after the review process.
If a conflict is reported, the Editor-in-Chief will notify the authors. If the authors deny the conflict, they will be required to sign a statement clarifying the situation. If a conflict is discovered after publication, the article will be reassessed. If the conflict has compromised the research or review integrity, the article may be corrected or retracted depending on the severity.
5. DATA AND REPRODUCIBILITY
Authors are encouraged to share the data used in their papers as supplementary documents. For research utilizing code-based statistical software (e.g., Python, R), sharing the code is highly suggested to ensure reproducibility. Authors are responsible for data accuracy; fabrication or image manipulation is strictly prohibited.
In cases of suspected data fabrication or manipulation, the Editor-in-Chief will consult relevant experts within the Editorial Board or appointed by the publisher. If suspicion is confirmed, the authors will be contacted for an explanation. If no satisfactory response is provided or the misconduct is proven, the article will be retracted, or an expression of concern will be published.
6. ETHICAL OVERSIGHT
The Editorial Board strictly observes ethical compliance for research submitted to Glossema. As defined by COPE, ethical oversight includes publication on vulnerable populations, ethical conduct of research using animals or human subjects, handling confidential data, and ethical business practices. All authors must be transparent regarding how ethics approval and consent were obtained. Violations of ethical oversight will result in correction or retraction.
7. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Authors must ensure they possess the intellectual property rights for all materials included in the manuscript. The manuscript must not breach any national or international legal frameworks. Glossema sets a maximum similarity index of 20%. However, intentional plagiarism (using text without citation) is not tolerated even if the similarity score is below this threshold.
All articles published in Glossema are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC-BY 4.0). Concerns regarding intellectual property violations will be investigated, and proven violations may lead to rejection or retraction.
8. JOURNAL MANAGEMENT
Glossema rigorously follows COPE Core Practices regarding authorship, contributorship, peer review, and ethical breaches. The journal adheres to an Open Access policy following DOAJ guidelines and the principles of transparency in scholarly publishing.
9. PEER REVIEW INTEGRITY
Glossema verifies the identity and institutional affiliation of all reviewers to prevent manipulation. We do not accept reviewer suggestions from authors, nor do we allow submissions by third parties. The Editor-in-Chief monitors review reports to detect potential manipulation. Reviewers are selected based on expertise and must declare the absence of any conflict of interest. If peer review manipulation is discovered post-publication, the manuscript will undergo a rigorous post-publication review, potentially leading to retraction.
10. POST-PUBLICATION DISCUSSIONS
Critiques from readers regarding published manuscripts are investigated by the Editor-in-Chief. If a critique is well-founded and not defamatory, it may result in an article correction or the publication of the critique alongside the author’s response. Cases of redundant publication (self-plagiarism) will be investigated; minor redundancies require correction, while major redundancies will lead to retraction.
